Every man has a natural fortress within himself, the Soul impregnable. …Besides this central citadel, man also has outerworks, the Aura. …It is the duty of every person to see that his Aura is in good condition. There are two main methods for doing this. The first is by a performance two or three times daily of the Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. Its main point is to establish in the Astral four Pentagrams, one in each quarter, and two Hexagrams, one above, the other below, thus enclosing the Magician, as it were, in a consecrated box. It also places in his Aura the Divine Names invoked.

The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is used to invoke (See our article on the difference between invocation and evocation) angelic assistance and protection. The LBRP is used to create a safe sacred space for the practitioner to work in. According to Aleister Crowley it is used to cleanse the Aura and to keep it in good order.

How the LRBP is performed:

Facing East, raise both your hands to your brow, placing your hands together as in a gesture of prayer.
Vibrate: Atah. (Pronounced: Ah-teh)

Move your hands together down to your heart/chest still in prayer form
Vibrate: Malkuth. (Pronounced: Mahl-kooth)

Hands to right shoulder:
Vibrate: Ve Geburah. (Pronounced: Vay-Geb-You-Rah)

Hands to left shoulder:
Vibrate: Ve Gedulah. (Pronounced: Vay-Ged-You-Lah)

Crossed over breast:
Vibrate: Le-Olahm. (Pronounced: Lay-Hor-Lahm)

Clasped together or as in prayer:
Vibrate: Amen. (Pronounced: Aah-Mehn)

(This makes up your Qabalistic Cross)

With your fire finger, wand, dagger or other magical tool that you are using, trace a full-size banishing pentagram of earth in the air before you.

The two lower points are roughly outside the left and right hips, the top of the pentagram is roughly in line with the crown of your head, the other two points outside the left and right shoulders.
Vibrate as you point to the centre: Yod He Vau He.
(Pronounced: Yohd-Heh-Vav-Heh)

Turn 90 Degrees to face South. Draw the pentagram just like before.
Vibrate as you point to the centre: ADNI
(Pronounced: Ah-Dohn-Naih)

Turn 90 Degrees to face West. Draw the pentagram just like before.
Vibrate as you point to the centre: AHIH
(Pronounced: Eyh-Hee-Eyh)

Turn 90 Degrees to face North. Draw the pentagram just like before.
Vibrate as you point to the centre: AGLA
(Pronounced: Ah-Gee-Lah)

Now stand with arms outstretched and your palms facing upward. Firmly announce the following:
“Before me Raphael.
Behind me Gabriel.
On my right hand Michael.
On my left hand Uriel.
For about me flames the pentagram and in the column, the six rayed star.”

Note: When pronouncing the names of the archangels, or any of the angels, the correct pronunciation is to accentuate the ‘EL’ at the end of each name. ‘EL’ means God, power or of the light. So for example, Gabriel is pronounced: Gab-ree-ehl)
