Smoky Quartz is the crystal of the darker goddesses, especially Hecate. It is a powerful protector and has been said to hold all the keys to the universe. The crystal is associated with the Root or Base Chakra (Mulhadara).
Smoky Quartz appears in a brown or dark black shade. It is normally used for its exceptional protective qualities, however smoky quartz is excellent for meditating on financial affairs to reach grounded profitable decisions. It is said to allow its wearer to hold onto their money and is excellent for thrifty spenders.
It is a stone of grounding and cleansing. Because smoky quartz pulls an extreme amount of negative energy, it is important to cleanse your crystal often. If you suffer from nightmares, night terrors or sleep paralysis, keeping your smoky quartz under or near your bed will banish these problems.
Smoky quartz alleviates depression, anxiety and stress and is also an excellent stone for those suffering from bi-polar or manic depression. It eases body pain and keeps the wearer guarded from psychic attack. If you believe that you are having a bout of bad luck make sure to carry a sizable piece of smoky quartz and see your bad luck change for the better.
Smoky quartz is one of those crystals that every witch should have. As a pendant or even as an amulet to carry around. Make sure to have a big piece hanging or positioned by your front door to prevent any unwelcomed energies into your home.
How to cleanse your smoky quartz crystal
You can either bury your crystals in some fresh soil over the period of the full moon, or leave them in a solution of sea salt and fresh water in the moonlight. Make sure that the bowl that you are using to place them in is not metallic.
You can also ritually cleanse them through the elements, water, fire, earth and air. Doing a full cleansing of your crystals and magical items like this is always recommended but sometimes people do not have the time and so burying them in fresh soil or leaving them in the windowsill in the salt and water solution will work just fine.
